Coming to 3355 Mission Street in Bernal Heights!
“The phenomenon of watching a movie you’ve heard or read about, that everyone’s talking over, and having that movie be better than you could have even imagined is a sensational phenomenon. Eating Abraham Nuñez’s tamale negro is just like that, a kind of psychic prodigal union after years of writing about Chicáno Nuevo’s blockbuster squid ink maiz dish. The beef tongue stuffed inside like gifts in a stocking is rich, tremendous in depth, with the sherry braise shining in each morsel. Cheddar and Gouda give sharp creaminess to the dish, creating a holy trinity with the Baja-style crema, and the pickled peppers and white onions provide another range of complexity with their shared acidity… This cook is sky-bound, bringing the punks and barflies to the clouds with him and his innovative, decadent tamales.” — Paolo Bicchieri, Eater SF reporter

S.F.'s newest tasting menu goes all in on the fish taco
“Chicano Nuevo's classic Baja California-style fish tacos are still the signature. Each one packs a fried basa fillet, whose buttery texture and slightly sweet taste Núñez prefers over white cod or dogfish, which are commonly used in Ensenada. The tacos arrive as a pair, topped with shaved cabbage, pickled red onions and cilantro with a light tomato salsa. They come with a clarified salmon consomme on the side, a common courtesy at seafood restaurants and stands in Baja California and Southern California.”

Chicano Nuevo’s Food Is Worth the Wait
“For the opening menu, diners get a parade of Chicano Nuevo hits, including the crowd-favorite Baja fish taco. It’s one of the best fish tacos I’ve ever had, no joke; the fish remained tender and evenly cooked, while maintaining that craggy, crisp fried exterior that fish taco dreams are made of. Add on some pickled onions and shredded red cabbage atop the blue corn tortilla, and it’s a bewitching taco.”
